What size do I need?

We recommend the size Senior for riders that are 6' or shorter and have a waist of 34" or smaller.  We recommend Big Senior for riders with a waist bigger than 34" even if they are shorter than 6'.  AP Back Guard is designed to be cut, if necessary, to fit individual torso lengths.

Why should I wear back protection?

We frequently hear about Motocross riders that get run over or get hit by their own bike.  Enduro riders faces risk of injury from rocks, roots, stumps and trees during a crash.  Four-wheelers and snowmobilers face the same risks as Enduro riders.  Many riders feel that the two most important safety devices to wear during riding or racing are a helmet and a back guard.

Do I need to wear a kidney belt with AP Back Guard?

Yes and No.  The waist belt functions as medium duty kidney belt and that is a well liked feature for less aggressive riders.  It is 135 mm or 5 1/4" wide and attaches with two elastic straps and Velcro.  However, we do recommend wearing a high quality kidney belt under the waist belt for aggressive riders.

Why is this type of protection mandatory in many countries overseas?

Back injuries started to increase in both Motocross and Enduro in the early nineties in Scandinavia.  So the Swedish organization for Motor sport, SVEMO, mandated a full-length back protection with very strict specifications.  (Remember, Volvo is also made in Sweden).  AP's Back Guard was developed with back injury experts from a large research hospital in Stockholm and has been the leading back guard in Europe since we introduced it for the 1993 season.  We have sold over 200,000 units so far and received many hundreds of letters over the years from riders that are convinced that our product prevented serious injury.  However, like with any safety gear, we cannot guarantee 100% prevention against all injuries.
